I’m not sure if the sports fans in Southern California – and in the country for that matter – truly and 100% realize what a legend they have in their midst.
Particularly in the Los Angeles area where Vin Scully, who will enter his 65th season calling plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2014, is celebrating his 86th birthday today.
The Dodgers’ last real link to Brooklyn along with former manager Tommy Lasorda and former ace pitcher Don Newcombe, who works in the Dodgers’ community relations department, Scully began at Ebbets Field in 1950 and came west with the team in 1958.
His iconic calls are so numerous, that I’d have to write an entire book to describe them all.
Below are what KTLA Channel 5 considers Scully’s best moments, compiled a couple of years ago.
Enjoy them, and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I wish Vin a very happy birthday!
