Gambling Corner: Los Angeles Lakers v. Los Angeles Clippers

With the Lakers in a downhill spiral towards the lottery, the Clippers stuck in the mud, and both teams missing their leaders and best players the cross-building rivalry has lost most of it’s panache. So how do we making this game more interesting?

Gambling, of course!

Clippers -10 v. Lakers

Over 209.5

The Lakers are 14-22 and 1-9 in their last 10 games. Tank City! The Lakers have somehow found a way to tank in the best season in the last 11 years to tank in. If you’re a Lakers fan you must feel satisfied somewhere deep down in your soul. I may be a little bit more tank friendly than most, but this is an incredible stretch of horrible basketball and it is working out perfectly.

The plan is so simple. Let Nick young shoot 30 times a game (he has scored 20 or more in 9 of the Lakers last 13 games), play zero defense, and play Robert Sacre, Wesley Johnson and the other scrubs as many minutes as possible. Plus, even though the Lakers are losing at an alarming rate, they are so much fun to watch. Count me as a fan of the 2014 Lakers.

The Clippers, on the other hand, are 25-13 and have dominated the Lakers over the past two seasons. Even without Chris Paul, the Clips are talented enough to decimate the Lakers on the offensive end. Pau Gasol has been playing well for the Lakers recently; however, he is no match for Blake Griffin at this point in his career. I would expect that Griffin is going to go for 30 points and 15 rebounds tonight.

DeAndre Jordan, Jamal Crawford and Darren Collison are also going to have huge games for the Clips. There is no doubt in mind that the Clips are going to thoroughly dominate this game for start to finish and they will score upwards of 120 points tonight. Doc Rivers, the Clippers Head Coach, is trying to build up the rest of his core with Chris Paul on the sidelines so that they are a more complete team when the playoffs come around. This is a rivalry game. Don’t think for a second the Clippers aren’t going to take this game seriously.

If you needed any more incentive to bet on the Clippers J.J. Redick is coming back from injury tonight. That settles it.

Prediction: Clippers 124 – Lakers 102
