Steve Nash returns from injury

The old man is back, kind of. Steve Nash will not play for the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night; however, he will most likely be in the lineup next Tuesday when the Lakers take on the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Nash practiced today with the team in El Segundo and it will be nice to see him back on the court. I think it is clear to everyone that we shouldn’t expect much from Nash and he will probably get injured again this season.

The Lakers will soon get Jordan Farmar and Steve Blake back, while Kendall Marshall has been putting up ridiculous numbers as the Lakers starting PG, despite the fact that he is probably a below average point guard in the NBA. The D’Antoni system always makes competent offensive players look better than they really are. Kendall Marshall is the Leandro Barbosa or Boris Diaw of the 2014 Lakers.

When all of the Lakers point guards are healthy I honestly believe that Nash will be the 3rd or 4th best point guard on the team. He’s one of the best players of all-time but he is too beat up and has put too many miles on his body.

My message to Laker fans is this: Don’t expect too much out of Steve Nash and enjoy the small glimpses of the past.

Kevin Love to the Lakers?

This morning Chris Broussard of ESPN wrote an article in which he addressed the Kevin Love to the Knicks rumors. Here is what you need to know:

“As for the Kevin Love-to-New York rumors, most executives believe Love is destined for the Lakers when he becomes a free agent in 2015. “That’s a 100 percent certainty,” one GM told me.”

I would say I’m convinced that Kevin Love to the Lakers is going to happen but I know that “100 percent certainty” means nothing in sports. Nothing is ever a lock. The Lakers have been the “front-runners” to get Love ever since the Minnesota Timberwolves decided not to sign the best Power Forward in the NBA to a max extension.

Do I think Kevin Love will be a Laker when his contract is up in Minnesota? Yes. Do I think it is imminent? No. It’s a done deal when Love puts on that Lakers uniform for the first time in a press conference. Until then it’s all just speculation.

Remember, Love isn’t even a free agent until after the 2015 season. If the Lakers want to sign Love then they can’t go out and sign a max-level free agent this summer. Just remember that before you start making custom Kevin Love Laker jerseys online.
