Los Angeles Lakers Tanking Update

We’ve officially reached that point in the NBA season. We all knew it was coming. About once a week for the rest of the season we will update where the Los Angeles Lakers rank in terms of the Tanking Standings.

I think that I officially realized it was “Tanking Season” when before the Lakers game tonight against the Memphis Grizzlies it was announced that Wesley Johnson would be guarding Marc Gasol for this matchup. Ummmm, what? Yes, that happened. Wesley Johnson is a skinny wing player and Marc Gasol is a 7 foot behemoth. However, Lakers head coach and tanking director Mike D’Antoni decided that playing the ultimate small ball lineup would give the Lakers the best chance to win, or perhaps he had something else in mind….TANKING!

Here’s a breakdown of the Lakers past couple of months:

Overall Record: 19-39, Worst in the Western Conference

Road Record: 10-21, 3rd Worst in Conference

Home Record: 9-18, Worst in Conference

Last 17 games: 3-14

However sad these records may be, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. That light takes place on Tuesday May 20th on ESPN. It’s a little thing called the NBA Draft Lottery. The Lakers have been unintentionally tanking this season and have played their asses off in most of those contests. However, after seeing Mike D’Antoni’s decisions tonight I have a feeling there may be a little more intentional tanking in the Lakers future, which we should all not only be OK with but we should be commending and embracing! Keep doing your thing Mr. Director of Tanking, you’re doing a fantastic job.

So, as of this moment the Lakers are 4th in the Tank Standings. For up to date Tank Standings I want to direct you towards a fantastic site called Tankathon.com. Here are the standings as of tonight:

This is simply incredible. This site will also allow you to play a Mock Lottery game where the ping pong balls bounce around and determine an order for the draft. However, if you want to look at a real mock lottery and see who the Lakers will potentially pick I would suggest that you visit ESPN and play Chad Ford’s Mock Lottery game.

I just played it and this is what came up….

Please let this happen. Please let this happen. Please let this happen. We don’t even need the first pick. Just get us one of the top three picks in the draft.

Adam Silver, I know you’re listening. Please rig the NBA Lottery to help the Lakers out. We need it. WE NEED IT! Please and Thank You in advance.
