The Lakers Take On The New York Knicks At Staples Center Tonight

The New York Knicks are currently 29-41 are going up against the Los Angeles Lakers today who are 23-46. The Knicks are have won eight out of their last 10 games. The Knicks hope to get one step closer to the Atlanta Hawks who are 31-38. Pau Gasol is doubtful after suffering from a vertigo on Sunday win over the Orlando Magic. Steve Nash is a game time decision as he has a nerve-root irritation. Xavier Henry will play with a torn ligament in his wrist, Kobe Bryant and Jordan Farmar are out.

Wesley Johnson will have a hard time guarding Carmelo Anthony. Anthony is averaging 28.1 points per game while shooting 45.3% from the field and over 40% from downtown. Mike D’Antoni will use several players to guard Melo, including Kent Bazemore, Jodie Meeks, Ryan Kelly, Nick Young and MarShon Brooks.

Tyson Chandler is still one of the better defensive centers in the league.Chandler is New York’s leading rebounder at 10.2 a game.  He’s also scored 9.3 points while blocking 1.2 shots a night.

Gasol is unlikely to play, as a result the Lakers will need scoring from both big men Chris Kaman and Jordan Hill. Hill is coming off a career night with 28 on Sunday against the Magic.

Here is how I see it, the Lakers need to lose to improve their draft status and the Knicks need to win in order to have any chance of making the playoffs.
