Brian Wilson to the DL

After a horrendous outing in which he gave up three runs to the San Diego Padres without getting an out, Brian Wilson is heading to the disabled list due to nerve irritation in his right arm.

It appears that the injury isn’t very severe but will keep Wilson out for a couple of weeks.

Perhaps this injury will explain why Wilson, who has been superb in his short time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, pitched so poorly against the Padres on Sunday night. At face value this injury could have been taken out of context and been used by Wilson to explain why he pitched so poorly; however, the injury is completely legitimate. It’s not great that Wilson and Clayton Kershaw have already hit the DL this season but it’s a long season and perhaps getting back on the right track and taking some time off will allow both players to come back stronger.

In the meantime, it looks as if the 8th inning set-up duties will fall to a platoon of Paco Rodriguez, Chris Withrow, Chris Perez and J.P. Howell, all of whom are capable relievers and should be able to replace Wilson as he recovers from this injury.
