Los Angeles Lakers Now Leaning Towards Firing Mike D'Antoni?

To fire Mike D’Antoni or not to fire Mike D’Antoni? There is little doubt that Mitch Kupchak and the Buss family will discuss this question multiple times in the coming days and weeks. We’ve heard before that they were leaning towards keeping D’Antoni around next season. We assumed, possibly correctly, that the Lakers would retain D’Antoni so that they wouldn’t have to eat his $4M salary and would claim that it would do them no good to hire a new coach while they were still trying to rebuild the team.

However, according to ESPN LA’s Lakers reporter Dave McMenamin it looks as if the Lakers may not be leaning towards getting rid of D’Antoni. This is what McMenamin told Sportscenter this morning (via @LakersNation).

Here’s the deal: We don’t know anything and we won’t for a couple of weeks. Rumors in Laker land always come down like a meteor from outer space. It’s part of the drama and allure of Hollywood. It’s in our blood. We want epic and dramatic swings in relationships. We want the story to be as grand as possible. We want it all.

However, it’s impossible to predict, as of this moment, what the Los Angeles Lakers front office is going to do with the Head Coach or anyone on the team except for Kobe Bryant. We have zero clue. To be honest, I don’t even think that Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak have any idea what they want to do. Based on their performance over the past 18 months perhaps they should figure out exactly what they want to do and do the complete opposite. That may result is some real progress.

Swallow $4,000,000 are you kidding me, you threw away $48,000,000 on a player who could possibly never play again, $9,000,000 on a crippled Nash & you are now talking about the high school coach’s piddly amount, please…..

If the front office is concerned enough by the TV ratings going WAY WAY down & if enough season ticket holders don’t renew or complain maybe the Lakers will make their move & bring in a NEW man to coach the comeback in 2015 & beyond. BUT bring him in now or you will lose more fan base….
