Los Angeles Kings vs. San Jose Sharks

Sharks Lead Series 3-1

7:00 PM PST – San Jose, CA – CNBC

After defeating the Sharks in Game 4 by the score of 6-3 at Staples Center, the Kings look to bring the series back to Los Angeles for Game 6 with a win tonight. It’s going to be an incredibly difficult assignment for the Kings to take down the Sharks in San Jose. The Sharks have beaten the Kings 6-3 and 7-2 in the two contests in San Jose so far this series and it seems likely that the Sharks will close out the series tonight.

However, we’re talking about the Stanley Cup Playoffs and anything can happen. In the history of American professional sports, a team that was down 3-0 in a series has only come back to win the series 4 times. The good news for the Kings is that 3 of those instances occurred in the NHL and Jeff Carter and Mike Richards were on one of those unique teams. In 2010 the Philadelphia Flyers were down 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Boston Bruins and came back to win the series and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. They eventually lost in the Cup Finals, but it still shows that is it possible and that the Kings have a unique insight into the possibility.

The Kings are going to need to play their best game of the playoffs in order to win this game and Jonathan Quick is going to have to find his 2012 form if the Kings are going to have any chance tonight. So, is it possible? Sure. Is it likely, no. Weirder things have happened. All the Kings can do is play their best game and hope that the Sharks come out flat or get nervous. If the Kings win this game tonight they will bring home ice advantage back to even and then anything is possible from there.

Prediction: Sharks 4 – Kings 3
