San Francisco 49ers Select USC’s Marcus Martin 70th Overall

With the 70th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers have selected USC Trojans center Marcus Martin.

Martin, who was projected as an early second round pick, fell to the beginning of the third round. Experts on both ESPN and NFL Network have suggested that this pick by the 49ers was a “steal”.

The 49ers are desperate for some quality lineman this season, due to injuries (T Mike Iupati) and free agency (C Johnathan Goodwin).

Trent Baalke, the 49ers GM, and John Harbaugh, 49ers head coach, have played this draft magnificently and have come up with value picks across the board. Martin represents, perhaps, they’re best pick of the draft thus far. Martin is expected to compete for the starting center or guard spots for the 49ers this season.
