Oklahoma City Thunder vs Los Angeles Clippers
Thunder Lead Series 3-2
7:30 PM – Staples Center – ESPN
For the second time this postseason the Los Angeles Clippers find their backs pinned against a wall. After falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a highly controversial Game 5, the Clippers come back to Staples Center hoping to extend their season one more game. The question of whether the can do it or not remains.
The Clippers have gone through arguably the most tumultuous playoffs of any team in NBA history and most of it has had nothing to do with basketball. We all know how the Donald Sterling situation has affected the Clippers, the NBA, and the international basketball community. One can only imagine how much the Sterling situation has drained the Clippers. Yet, they still fight.
In Game 4, down by double digits late in the fourth quarter and down 2-1 in the series, the Clippers dug down deep and pulled out a win from the jaws of defeat. However, in Game 5 it all went south. The Clippers let the Thunder steal back the series, with an assist from the referees.
The Clippers are down 3-2 in this series and must hold home court tonight in order to force a Game 7. There is no doubt that the Clippers have the talent not only to win tonight, but to win this series and advance to the Western Conference Finals. However, tonight isn’t about basketball. It’s about a basketball team. It’s about the Los Angeles Clippers coming together for one last push. It’s about Chris Paul forgetting about his collapse in Game 5 and putting on a performance of a lifetime. It’s about Blake Griffin proving he is the best player in this series. It’s about the role players like Jamal Crawford, Darren Collison, DeAndre Jordan, and J.J. Redick, leaving their mark on this series. It’s about Doc Rivers proving he is the best coach in the NBA.
Everything is at stake tonight. The season is on the line. Reputations are at stake. Will the Clippers step up to the plate and play their best game of the season or is the moment too big for them? Have these wild and outrageous 2014 NBA playoffs simply become too much for the Clippers to bare? Time will tell. That time is at 7:30 PM on Thursday night.
