Kevin Ollie Signs Extension With UConn, Will Not Be Lakers Coach

As the Queen song goes, “Another one bites the dust”.

Kevin Ollie, the Head Coach of the UConn Huskies, has reached an agreement with the school on a contract extension that will pay him $3M per season, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Ollie, who had been a rumored candidate of the Los Angeles Lakers, is now off the market and will not enter the NBA ranks for some time, it would seem. It appears, according to Wojnarowski, that Ollie was never a serious candidate for the Lakers and, in fact, the team had never made a formal inquiry into Ollie.

Ollie would have been a strong candidate for the Lakers position, not only because of his quick success at the college ranks, but also due to his relationship with players around the league and the respect those players have for him, most notably Kevin Durant.

The Lakers have made it clear that their coaching search is on hold until after the NBA Draft Lottery tomorrow and that they probably will not hire a coach until the postseason is over.

One has to believe that Derek Fisher is one of the main reasons the franchise is holding out.
