San Jose Sharks, LA Kings To Meet Outdoors At Levi's Stadium

GET READY FOR SOME………HOCKEY!!!

NHL.com announced this morning that the two-time Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings will play the San Jose Sharks on February 21st, 2015 at new Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

This will be the Kings second regular season outdoor hockey game. You’ll recall the first took place between the Anaheim Ducks and Kings last year at Dodger Stadium, a game which the Ducks won. The game between the Kings and Sharks in February will be the second outdoor hockey game on the West Coast in the history of the NHL.

The Kings and Sharks have had their fair share of battles of the years and the rivalry has grown into a full on war over the past two seasons. In each of the last two playoffs, the Kings and Sharks have played a 7-game series against each other. Unsurprisingly, the Kings prevailed in both of those series. In fact, the Kings and Sharks have met 41 times (regular season + playoffs) since the start of the 2010-2011 season, the most by any two NHL clubs.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman had this to say about the game on NHL.com

The growing excitement around NHL hockey in California hockey, the intensity of last season’s playoff series between these teams and the state-of-the-art setting at Levi’s Stadium will bring a thrilling new dimension to the Kings-Sharks rivalry. We thank the Sharks, the Kings, Coors Light, the San Francisco 49ers, Levi’s Stadium and everyone involved in producing the next episode of our Coors Light NHL Stadium Series.

Last season in the first round the Sharks held a 3-0 lead in the series against the Kings before the Kings roared back to win in 7 games. There will be bad blood and animosity between these two teams. Add in the fact that Levi’s Stadium is a brand new ballpark and the Sharks fans are some of the best in hockey and I can guarantee this is going to be must-see TV. Or, if you’re like me, a must attend game. It’s already on my schedule!
