Clippers waive newly acquired Delfino, Raduljica via stretch provision

The Los Angeles Clippers waived trade acquisitions Carlos Delfino and Miroslav Raduljica three days after acquiring them from the Milwaukee Bucks, the team announced Friday.

The pair were originally swapped for small forward Jared Dudley, whose one year with the Clippers is best described using the first three letters of his last name, and a protected 2017 first-round pick. The move originally brought Los Angeles cap relief of $4.25 million next season, as both players have non-guaranteed contracts for 2015-16.

Using the stretch provision now, which spreads both players’ remaining salaries over five years, saves the Clippers $3.5 million this year. With the team previously dancing close to the NBA’s hard cap, it now has room to court veteran free agents on minimum deals.

The Clippers recently brought in big man Ekpe Udoh for a visit.

Other names associated with the Clippers include Chris Douglas-Roberts and Elton Brand.

But the player Doc Rivers really wants that money to go to is Ray Allen.
