It would only be harder to try to step into the shadow of Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston and only because they’ve both won a Heisman Trophy and had shots — one successfully — at a national  championship.

To put it simply, filling the shoes of the third-best quarterback available in this year’s NFL Draft, former UCLA star Brett Hundley, will be no easy task.

Surprisingly, a young man from St. John Bosco high school is up to the challenge.

We got our first look at this year’s UCLA football team thanks to the Spring Showcase and it was here that Josh Rosen, the young kid who must become a man, began to shine.

Throwing 13-17 for two touchdowns isn’t a bad way to get the ball rolling, especially with Jim Mora as your coach (never an easy thing to deal with, even for the best of players).

After Hundley led the Bruins back to national relevance in a performance that the Bruins will get to cherish for a long time coming, it will be up to Rosen to keep the momentum in favor of the gold and blue.

As a high school starter, Rosen was the fourth-best quarterback from California and the nineteenth-best from across the nation — not bad when you consider how much time he’ll have to still develop with the Bruins’ offensive weapons and defensive assistance.

Getting into a flow is one of the biggest x-factors in the game of football, and getting such an early start with the current UCLA team will have a lasting impact on his development as a player moving forward.

As a student-athlete at St. John Bosco, Rosen took the back seat as a freshman, throwing only five passes and completing just two of them. From there, Rosen took the initiative to constantly stay focused on improve for the next time around.

And because of that mentality, he just kept on getting better.

As a sophomore, Rosen started thirteen games and completed well over half of his nearly 250 throws that season. The following season, he completed a whopping 69% of his passes and polished off his high school with a QBR of 122.0 and 8,473 yards to his name.

Let’s hope he takes that success to the collegiate level and then beyond that, if his play remains consistent enough.

Aside from this talent on the field, though, one thing that Josh Rosen will help keep constant in the locker room is the motivation, power, and raw strength that Hundley always brought to the table.

Basically, he’ll always bring his A-game even if their opponent for that match up isn’t as big of a deal as say the USC game that always draws national attention or a bowl game — the goal, for Rosen, remains the same.

Win, win, win.

Bottom Line: Rosen’s ready to make Hundley nothing more than a pleasant memory

Having that mentality in an offense that can be slow to the touch at times is good. Letting receivers find their groove on top of finding his own is what will make this offense really click. As for the defense, the only part that Rosen can really contribute to that is keeping his team on the scoreboard.

It’s the defense’s job to worry about stopping the other team, not Rosen’s.

With that in mind, as long as everyone else does their job correctly, Rosen’s going to be the big man for the Bruins in the foreseeable future.
