LA Lakers Finally Get A Win

It took playing the still win-less Brooklyn Nets, but the LA Lakers finally got a win.

About time, right?

After four straight losses, even the Lakers faithful were getting sick of what they were seeing on the floor from Kobe Bryant & Co.

It comes with great surprise that their first win would come on the road, considering how much of an important factor having a crowd like that of the Staples Center is for a team like the Lakers.

But with the way they’ve been playing, it’s already to the point where they’ll take what they can get.

Byron Scott has been under fire this past week for his comments on the development of D’Angelo Russell.

In all, Scott seems more focused on pushing and squeezing the good play out of the rookie rather than letting it come naturally.

That’s a problem, but that’s Scott’s problem — and as long as he takes the heat for the consequences that come of it, that’s his choice as the head coach.

As much as a lot of us probably don’t like his approach to Russell, there isn’t much we can do about it if the front office doesn’t take a stand.

And so far, they seem to be letting Scott run the ship how he wants.

Jordan Clarkson will continue to be an important developing piece to the Los Angeles puzzle.

D’Angelo Russell did a good job of putting Brooklyn’s Jarrett Jack on the list of players that are present, but not able to make their contributions count.

Kobe Bryant has only scored 81 points throughout the first five games of the season, and that’s a problem moving forward.

Not that he needs to be shooting erratically, but he’s yet to find his balance on the offensive side of the basketball.

As for the defense… I think it speaks for itself for where it’s at right now.

The Lakers play the New York Knicks tomorrow night in the Big Apple and hope they can get back-to-back road wins and get some momentum before taking their talents back to LA.

Or lack thereof, in some cases.

Also on their road trip list before facing the Pistons in Los Angeles next weekend are stops in Miami, Orlando, and Dallas.

All of which are teams that the Lakers can hang with, let alone get a win from.

The Mavericks are the lesser of their concerns from that group of games, as both the Magic and the Heat have shown great promise to kick off the season.

Miami has the more seasoned team, whereas Orlando looks like their having all the fun.

The Magic have been able to keep their games close, losing tight games to the best teams in the Association.

Bottom Line: Lakers got it done on the road.

First was a one-point loss to the Washington Wizards, then an overtime loss to the Thunder that required a miracle game-tying buzzer beater on the part of OKC.

After that, a five-point loss to the Chicago Bulls and an overtime loss to the Rockets came before Orlando actually beat the previously unbeaten Toronto Raptors.

So let’s just say that the Lakers have their work cut out for them.
