112. 77. 115. 41. Final

The LA Clippers came so close to a perfect comeback, dropping 13 points in the last two minutes.

After trouncing the San Antonio Spurs by 19 points earlier in the week, many wondered how the LA Clippers would fare against an even better Golden State team.

Their performance last night at Staples Center should speak for itself.

Although a loss never helped anybody in the standings, there’s nothing for the Clippers to feel disappointed about after that.

With the big win over the Spurs and near-comeback against the Warriors, they have more than enough momentum for their eventual showdown with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

What’s clear to see though, from the two games Los Angeles has played so far in the second half of the season, is that the team is readying themselves for playoff basketball.

Out in the Western Conference, assuming the Clippers made it to the conference semi-finals or beyond, the chances of them facing the Golden State Warriors or San Antonio Spurs at some point is inevitable.

  • In the first match up between Golden State and Los Angeles earlier in the season, the Clippers were in control most of the contest but failed to effectively close out.

Tonight, they closed that loophole — and the difference was night and day.

Golden State was coming off a 32-point embarrassing loss to Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers — a sign of caution if a team like Portland were to end up in the playoffs when it’s all said and done.

Where they beat the Spurs with endurance, they nearly topped the Warriors thanks to more efficient production with the time the starters got.

DeAndre Jordan and J.J. Redick threw in 16 points apiece to help keep the team afloat on the scoreboard and not fall behind by too much.

Chris Paul led Los Angeles starters with 24 points while Jamal Crawford led the team overall, dropping 25.

Klay Thompson led Golden State with 32 points, Steph Curry hit for 23, and Harrison Barnes along with Draymond Green scored 18 points, respectively.

While they didn’t stop every scoring attempt, the league should know by now that they are the one team that could stop the Warriors cold in their tracks in what would be a historic, mind-blowing playoff upset.

Golden State has only lost five games in their 54 contests so far; the best start over that stretch in NBA history.
