Paul Perkins former UCLA Bruin running back looks to make immediate impact in NFL!

Perkins was picked as the 10th pick in the 5th round in the 2016 NFL Draft, which is pick 149 overall by the New York Giants.

You may wonder why did they draft another running back when they already have three who played in the 2015 regular season.

Well they had two running backs one who was semi-knew and a veteran while the third one they used in the 3rd down passing situations.

Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams are the hard nosed backs and Shane Vereen is the passing back.

Let us not forget that last year the Head Coach was Tom Coughlin.

Ben Mcadoo was the offensive coordinator and with Tom gone, Mcadoo is the new head coach.

He made the decision to draft Perkins and the reasons why are endless.

The first reason is he his young, youthful, energetic, and a hard worker who loves to compete.

It is ironic he stayed with the the color blue same as his college.

The Giants were expected to do great last year in the division, yet after the midway point everything went downhill.

Their defense overall was mediocre, their secondary was decent with veterans, and their front seven were okay.

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul helped them out the best he could coming back form a firework accident.

The offense was good because they had a 2 time Super Bowl winning quarterback, good receivers, okay running backs, and an offensive line.

Victor Cruz was suppose to play during he season, but unfortunately missed the whole season for the 2nd year in a row.

Oh ya not to forget New York was one of the worst teams in rushing offense and they had multiple backs to help create the offense and its flow.

Their running game had no flow as it was one of the worst and they only scored 5 rushing touchdowns in a span of 16 games.

Perkins brings that competitiveness, will to fight, and win along with his talent/skill such as being elusive.

He is small and big at once, he is a small big back as in short and has the correct weigh too be bale to hit the wholes and be okay afterwards.

Here are the Giants rushing stats proving they need help in the rush game.

They rushed for 1,609 yards on 403 attempts which averages out to 4 yards per attempt and the teams longest rush was 39 yards.

The Giants averaged 100.6 rushing yards per game, only scoring 5 rushing touchdowns all season along with 4 fumbles and losing 2 of those fumbles.

They were ranked 19th overall in rushing offense in 2015 with multiple talented backs.

In 2016 their rushing offense will change and will be looking for new players to make immediate impacts to boost the offense to where it needs to be and wants to go.

Perkins should have an immediate impact with his depth to the roster.

As I mentioned earlier he is a small big back who has speed but can run his opponents over or evade them with his elusiveness and speed of a small back which he also has a lower center of gravity for being shorter that most people.

Ironically enough players drafted in the later rounds, where critics criticize saying they are this or that, they  are the players who go on to have a good career or even become Hall of Famers in the NFL.

I have two examples of which are both quarterbacks, Tom Brady from the New England Patriots drafted in the 6th round and 199th pick overall in the 200 draft.

He was won multiple Super Bowls and broke crazy records.

Kurt Warner was undrafted and went to 2 Super Bowls winning one out of 2.

I am saying those picked later feel they have something to prove and or they also work harder because they are not just handed the starting job they have to earn it unlike some players.

I am not saying some players who are handed the starting job don’t work hard, because there are players who were handed the starting job and continually work hard to keep their job.

There is a saying that goes “Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Does Not Work Hard,” Moral of the story is hard work pays off in the end and is rewarding.

They are looking to Perkins to help boost their offense in the run game.

They also drafted cornerback Eli Apple to help in the secondary and receiver Sterling Shepard out of Oklahoma University to play besides Victor Cruz and Odell Beckham Jr.
