With Mike McCoy gone, the Los Angeles Chargers brought Anthony Lynn on board.

Taking a new approach to the game is something that the Chargers are likely to learn the hard way. In what will be their first season back in Los Angeles in quite some time, it’s difficult to imagine it any other way.

Like the idea of re-branding the team, coaching philosophies of old had to leave as well.

In their search for McCoy’s replacement, the Chargers landed on the previous interim coach in Buffalo, Anthony Lynn.

Lynn took over the Bills after the announcement that Rex Ryan would not be continuing with the team.

He’s no stranger to odd coaching circumstances it seems, but only time will tell if he truly fits.

Obviously, the privilege of playing in Los Angeles comes with expectations. There’s a whole word of San Diego fans hoping that the team falls flat.

If the Chargers do just that, the move might have been better off not happening.

Lynn was previously the running backs coach for the Bills before being tapped as an interim.

This could come in handy in keeping San Diego’s running game strong via Melvin Gordon.

It’s the one edge that the Chargers absolutely have over the Rams and they need to be sure to exploit it every chance they get.

Making the move for Lynn seems like the right call in the moment. Hard to judge a guy that hasn’t had his chance to coach in a sports crazy like Los Angeles.

This should go to show that the Chargers really are all about a fresh start — and the coaching staff isn’t off limits.
