In a move rumored for the better part of three days, the Dodgers have signed former nemesis Sergio Romo to bolster their bullpen for the 2017 season.

Romo, a Southern California native (Brawley, Orange Coast College), is a nine-year veteran with substantial postseason experience and a ferocious slider.

In 515 career innings, Romo has pitched to a 2.58 ERA with 498 strikeouts in 439 2/3 innings.

A former closer for the Giants with 84 career saves, Romo lost his role after struggling a bit in 2014. Since, he has regained footing as an effective reliever, sporting a 2.94 and 2.68 ERA in the past two seasons.

Romo enjoyed three World Series championships with the Giants, tallying a 3-1 record with 4 saves in his 27 postseason appearances.

Though the move to the bitter rival of the Giants may be somewhat surprising, he grew under the auspices of his grandfather, who was a pitcher for the Mexico City Diablos and his father, who idolized Fernando Valenzuela.

Both were huge Dodgers fans.

Currently pitching in the Caribbean Series for Aguilas de Mexicali of Mexico, Romo’s squad earned a spot in the semifinals by winning its first three games of the tournament.

Romo pitched one inning so far in the tournament, allowing three hits including a homerun versus Puerto Rico. The deal is expected to be finalized upon his return from the tournament.

The busy offseason will continue for Romo, who is also scheduled to pitch for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. The deal is for one year at $3 million.
