The latest Clippers news has a lot to do with J.J. Redick.

Tuesday night ended up being more of a funeral instead of a basketball game. Los Angeles’ two basketball teams came head to head at Staples Center, but it wasn’t close from the beginning.

After storming out of the gates, the Clippers never looked back. It seemed to solidify how bad of a season this really was for the Lakers, while giving the Clippers some hope for a playoff run.

In the midst of all of that, the stars continued to shine, as expected. Chris Paul led them all, scoring a team-high 27 points.

Right behind him? J.J. Redick with 24 of his own.

Redick’s ability to catch fire in games right behind the big three is critical this year. Unlike prior playoff runs, the Clippers have a real opportunity to dethrone the Western Conference juggernauts.

As of late, the Warriors haven’t looked like all of that, while the Spurs would present a great duel. Should they find themselves against Houston at any point, that match up comes with the most red flags.

Instead of finding ways around them in the playoffs, the Clippers seem to be really good at hitting a wall.

Redick added three rebounds while shooting 80% from deep and maintaining a perfect stat box at the free throw line.

Doc Rivers cannot afford to not give him opportunities to make a difference in the playoffs. We saw how some players such as Austin Rivers handled the immediate pressure last year.

While it was a valiant effort, it did not go well. This time around, guys like Redick are showing they can handle the spotlight and the pressure with character.

That matters, and the Clippers would be foolish to look past it when they need it most.
