Mike Trout is right where he wants to be in the AL MVP race 2017.

It’s an award that Mike Trout has won before, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping him from doing all he’s capable of and more in 2017.

The Angels have surprised a lot of people for a variety of reasons. Fans love their players, and it really shows with Trout.

Now in his seventh season, the 25-year old Trout has his name in the hat of all major AL batting categories. Surprisingly, Trout is in the top five for batting average, home runs, and RBI.

Overall, Trout’s competition in terms of being the best player in MLB is getting better. It’s not as clear cut this season, but that’s what makes his run even more exciting.

For home runs, Trout is second only to Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees. Judge has really done himself well in pinstripes, knocking 14 pitches out of the park already.

Trout has 13 bombs to his credit, and that number will obviously only go up from here.

From there, he is tied for third for most RBI with Minnesota’s Miguel Sano. Currently with 30 runs batted in, Trout’s consistent help on offense doesn’t go unnoticed.

Finally, the slugger has the fourth best batting average. Fifth place on the list is Boston’s Xander Bogaerts, while the top three aren’t too far away.

Trout’s .341 average is bested only by Avisail Garcia (CWS), Starlin Castro (NYY), and Jean Segura (SEA).

A final takeaway from Trout’s impressive season thus far is that he leads the AL in WAR. In a statistic that does its best to calculate the true value and contributions of a player, Trout currently holds a 2.9 rating.

Aaron Judge is second to him in that category, holding a rating of 2.5 WAR.
