Nobody has more at stake in NBA Free Agency 2017 than Chris Paul and the Clippers.

It’s time for the Clippers to move on in NBA Free Agency 2017. Chris Paul has interest from other teams, and the Clippers have a chance to try and trade or sign for their next point guard.

Blowing up the core they have had was inevitable, anyway. Another free agent decision that will hurt them comes from both Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick.

Neither look like they’re in position to return to Los Angeles, and you can’t really blame them.

Above all else, Chris Paul is still in search of a trip to the conference finals. Back when the Clippers had a 3-1 lead over Houston in the second round a few years ago, we all thought that was his time.

But no — turns out that wasn’t it.

One of the teams interested in the superstar appears to be the San Antonio Spurs. Gregg Popovich and company could be weighing their options for a Tony Parker replacement and Paul would be the perfect fit for them.

There’s a number of reasons that he should bolt to San Antonio, but above all it’s his chance to actually be a difference maker on the team.

With the Clippers, he was their go-to guy. With the Spurs, the unquestionable leader of that team isn’t Paul, it’d be Kawhi Leonard.

Opting to go to the Spurs means that Paul knows what he wants and where he can get it. Similar to the Kevin Durant decision to join Golden State, albeit with the potential for much less blow back.

Chris Paul can’t do this forever. He needs a team that can help showcase his best talents, while not wasting them on a decent regular season.
