The focus for the Los Angeles Lakers is already the offseason as the team hopes to land a second star: that second star inevitably being Jimmy Butler.

The Los Angeles Lakers‘ plan since Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka took over the team is to land two superstars in Los Angeles to contend for an NBA Title. While the front office did land the biggest star in the game in LeBron James, the rest of the moves from the offseason have not been great.

The Lakers lost some valuable assets in the pursuit of these two stars, some justified and some not. Some Laker fans are still upset about the D’Angelo Russell trade, although that was necessary for cap space. The team also lost Julius Randle and Brook Lopez this offseason while trading away Ivica Zubac for pennies at the deadline.

The team could not land Paul George, who instead decided to sign an extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Trading for Kawhi Leonard was explored but never come to fruition and the team tried so desperately to land Anthony Davis, which ended up having more negative implications than positive.

All of the failures that the front office have had has made the fanbase reasonably pessimistic about what the team is going to do this offseason. The opinion on LeBron James has soured and the overall outlook of the team has grown cloudy.

There is one outcome that seems to be inevitable, even if it is not the best move the team could make. The Los Angeles Lakers are inevitably going to sign Jimmy Butler this offseason, here is why.
