Time for a Nickname, Parker Dunks Again!
By Joe K
Call me crazy but this Candace Parker of the Sparks might actually turn out to be a pretty good player after all. While I already said that she was better than Kwame Brown, let’s please hold off on the “can she save the WNBA” talk. There is only so much of that in which I can take.
While it’s premature to call her the WNBA’s Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson, it’s certainly about time we start calling her the women’s version of Dominique Wilkins due to her unique ability to get some series hangtime, especially for a women.
During last night’s 76-62 victory over the Seattle Storm, Candace Parker dunked for the second consecutive game, which is quite the accomplishment since Lisa Leslie’s slam in 2002 was the only other time a WNBA player dunked during a regular season or playoff contest.
With 57 seconds left to play in regulation, Parker stole the ball, dribbled the length of the court, and dunked with her right hand, as the crowd jumped to its feet. This dunking thing isn’t new for Parker as she had her first pro dunk Sunday against Indiana, became the first woman to dunk in an NCAA tournament game, was the first woman to dunk twice in a college game, and also won the McDonald’s High School Slam Dunk Contest back in 2004.
Because of her knack for the slam dunk, it’s only fitting that Parker receive some sort of a nickname much like The Human Highlight Film (Dominique Wilkins) or Air Canada (Vince Carter).
I am generally not the best at dishing out nicknames, but I’ll try and give a few. Hopefully you guys can help me out here.
