Like an Intelligent Person, Carson Palmer Hates Ohio State

Bengals quarterback and USC Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer is a man of few words and usually does not have much to say to the media. However, when he does decide to speak, he appears to come across as a very intelligent individual and mastermind of the the egotistical nature of college football fans. This past week, Palmer was in town for Matt Leinart’s charity bowling event and appeared on the Los Angeles based sports radio station (KLAC). During the interview, Palmer set the record straight regarding his college football loyalties and presented his opinions regarding The Ohio State University (After two straight BCS title game blowouts, the Buckeyes lose the The in the name)

Here is what Palmer said:

"I cannot stand the Buckeyes."

Well, I can’t stand them either, and I don’t even live in Ohio.

"It’s amazing to hear what those guys think about that university and what they think about that football program and Tressel and all the crap I gotta put up with being back there."

Wait, there is more!

"I just can’t wait for two years from now when SC comes to the ‘Shoe and hopefully we’ll have a home game that weekend and I can go up there and watch us pound on them in their own turf. I’m really getting sick of it and I just can’t wait for this game to get here so they can come out to the Coliseum and experience LA and get an old-fashioned Pac-10 butt-whoopin’ and go back to the Big Ten."

Carson isn’t the only one, who’s salivating over the prospects of a USC beatdown of the Buckeyes. I am looking forward to the matchup as well.

While some people, mainly Buckeye fans, may be a little irritated with Palmer’s tirade, I am loving every second of this interview for two main reasons. First off, it is about time athletes learn to speak their minds and not repeat the same basic one-line cliches. I have never really cared about listening to athletes via radio interviews, because they never have anything interesting to say. It sounds as if they had their dialogue already set up by the host and their agent. So, props to Carson for speaking his mind and sounding like a normal human being.

As for the dig at Ohio State, I love that even more. Nobody is denying the success that Ohio State has achieved in the past 100 years, but the arrogance that their fans exhibit is beyond belief. Last week, a Buckeye fan actually wrote to the Columbus Post-Dispatch complaining that there was “too much coverage of the Blue Jackets” and not enough of Ohio State. I can guarantee you that Ohio State certainly gets its fair share of media coverage, especially in its home city.

I am in one hundred percent agreement with Palmer on the arrogance of OSU fans. Here are some quotes from the Cleveland Cavaliers fan site, CavsBoard.com, that display their egotistical nature of most, not all, Buckeye fans.

"Those people! Those people! A hope a Buckeye fan hits him in the head with a horseshoe. If he wants to talk about arrogant fans, he should look to his own house. USC may have some of the most annoying fans in sports. The sense of entitlement and inability to accept that they didn’t “three-peat” or even “two-peat” is disgusting."

No USC fan argues that the team three-peated. I have no idea where that comes from. They did win back-to-back titles in ’03 and ’04, because the Associated Press has been allowed to crown National Championships since the dawn of time.

"You go to hell Carson Palmer, Why don’t you play for the Raiders, you are not that good anyway. Get the hell out of Ohio, Jerk.Go Bucks…"

Statistically, Palmer has put up some of the best numbers among quarterbacks in the past three years. It isn’t his fault that his team has a tendency to draft players with criminal records.

Just reading the comments section here and here further illustrate Palmer’s point regarding the annoyance of OSU fans.

I knew Carson was an intelligent individual as well as a Pro Bowl quarterback.
