Coach of the Year – Gregg Popovich
The Spurs are 4 games better than their closest competitor in the NBA and have done it with an aging roster and a ton of moving parts. Quite simply, Gregg Popovich is the best coach in the NBA and has been one of the two best over the past two decades, along with the immortal Phil Jackson. Popovich could win the award every single season; however, he deserves it more than ever this season.
The Spurs are the best run franchise in sports and it all begins with Popovich and his ability to get all of his players to completely buy into his system. Everyone knows it’s Pops way or the highway. He’s the best at what he does year in and year out. It’s about time he got rewarded for the job he does. While Pop deserves the award, I’m mostly voting for him because I want to see his 10 word acceptance speech. Can we gamble on the amount of words he’ll say?
Other contenders for the award will be Jeff Hornacek, who has been marvelous for the Phoenix Suns this season, and Doc Rivers, who has completely transformed the identity of the Clippers franchise and has them poised to make a real push for the Western Conference title. Also in contention is Mike D’Antoni. Just kidding. He’s the LVC this season.
Vote: 1. Popovich 2. Jeff Hornacek 3. Doc Rivers Last. Mike D’Antoni
