Facts and Figures
- The Angels remained consistent in their plan to draft high ceiling starting pitching and a lot of college players. Drafting college-tested players can help them sooner than selecting high school players, the way they did under Tony Reagins and Eddie Bane.
- Tyler Skaggs was scratched from Tuesday’s start against the Oakland A’s because of a strained hamstring. He will be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
- Hector Santiago will start in place of Skaggs.
- Los Angeles has won four of its last five after losing six of the previous nine. Oh, how things can turn around fast in this game.
- The Angels could be deep in the mix for Red Sox starting lefty Jon Lester this offseason.
- The team released outfielder and former 2010 first round draft pick Chevy Clarke. Clarke, 22, was taken out of high school, but hasn’t made it past high-A, where was hitting .219/.306/.337.
- In Joel Pineiro‘s first start at Triple-A Salt Lake, he gave up 6 earned runs in 5 innings.
- Reliever Kevin Jepsen is sporting a 12 consecutive scoreless inning streak, his second of the season. Jepsen was torched in the opening series against the Mariners, but has been lights out ever since. He currently has a 3.54 ERA.
