Final stats: 2-for-3, double, triple, one run, two RBI, one left-on-base
Mike Trout lived up to the hype as the best player in baseball despite his 22 years of age, winning the MVP award and a Corvette in the process. He was the lone Angels player to see game action. AL manager John Farrell couldn’t fit Alex Gordon’s replacement, shortstop Erick Aybar, into the game.
First inning: Hitting behind The Captain, who had just led off with a double, Trout hits a bomb to right center. Fellow Los Angeles resident Yasiel Puig misplays the ball at the warning track, allowing it to bounce off the wall and fall for a triple. Jeter scores standing up, giving the AL an early 1-0 lead.
Miguel Cabrera does his thing sending a pitch over into the left field seats. Trout scores and the NL is facing a 3-0 hole.
Third inning: Trout misses out on another chance to bring Jeter in to score. With The Captain on second after singling and advancing on a wild pitch. He hits a screaming line drive to left fielder Carlos Gomez for the first out.
Fifth inning: Facing Pat Neshek with Derek Norris on second and Alexei Ramirez on first, Trout hits a double just over the third base bag. Norris comes in, giving the AL the 4-3 lead. Altuve would follow with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Ramirez and adding an insurance run to the AL lead. The game would end 5-3.
