LASH Roundtable: 5 Burning NBA Offseason Questions

5. If you could redirect one free agent to another team he was rumored to sign with (excluding the Lakers or Clippers), who would it be and where would he go?

Khoury: If I had to redirect just ONE free agent, it would have to be Carmelo Anthony. I was never crazy about the idea of him joining the Lakers, but I certainly would have been intrigued by seeing him in Chicago with the Bulls. Assuming that Derrick Rose’s return to full strength, the Rose/Anthony/Noah trio could have seriously challenged any LeBron-led team in the Eastern Conference and given Oklahoma City or San Antonio a run in the NBA Finals.
Gold: Wait, why can’t I direct all free agents to the Lakers? I don’t understand? WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THIS? I need an aspirin. Thanks Jim.
Ok, I’m calm. I think I would have directed Pau Gasol to the Spurs or the Thunder. For selfish reasons I wanted Pau to go to the Eastern Conference so we wouldn’t have to see him destroy our conference and remind us that D’Antoni wasted two potentially great years of his career. However, I think Pau would have been special on the Spurs and I don’t know if the ball would ever touch the floor. I also think that it would have been cool to see Pau play with Durant and Westbrook. It’ll be fun to see Pau with Rose and Noah but with the way that Thibs rides his players, I’m a bit worried for his health. He would have been much better suited playing under Popovich’s tutelage.
Shaked: Chris Bosh should be a Houston Rocket right now, for a few reasons. 1) He’s the perfect fit offensively for what both Dwight Howard and James Harden do, which is impressive given they don’t pair all that well together. 2) Bosh and Howard would immediately form the best defensive front court duo in the league. 3) Watching Pat Riley keep a dry, cool exterior while burning a rage of inferno on the inside at losing LeBron and Bosh in the same summer would make my day. And probably a few more after that.
