Los Angeles Galaxy Ready for Kick-Off
By Pablo Jacobo
Coming into the 2015 MLS season, the Los Angeles Galaxy may have more questions than answers.
Most teams heading into the season are not 100-percent confident about what they have. Throw in the fact that the Galaxy are coming off of a championship run, an extensive traveling pre-season, and the loss of a huge midfield presence in Marcelo Sarvas; you have a team that could potentially have a slow start to the season. Will the mental strain on these players be too much to overcome?

Moreover, the team will be without arguably the greatest American soccer player in history. Landon Donovan decided to hang up his cleats at the end of last season’s championship season. Who will fill the void? Who will emerge as the next super star?
The new signing of England international and current Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard will not be arriving until June, which may put a twist in the squad mid-season. Especially if he is not able to assimilate quickly to the intense travel done in the MLS, which is more than players are used to in the English Premier League. Will this be a case of too little too late?

If history is anything to go by, the only time the Galaxy have won back to back championships was in 2011 and 2012. However, in the 2012 season the Galaxy started with a horrendous record of 4 wins, 10 losses and 3 draws. Sandwiched in between those results were a loss and a tie in the CONCACAF Champions League competition. They finished with an uninspiring 16W 12L 6D in league play to sneak into the playoffs in fourth place. However, they went on to win the MLS trophy for a second consecutive time. Will history repeat itself?
At the end of the day, will the Galaxy not need to have the best of starts to come out on top? Looking forward, will we see a season that could potentially be over before reinforcements arrive? It will be interesting to see the game plan designed by Head Coach Bruce Arenas.
They are set to begin their quest for back-to-back titles
The Galaxy squad received their championship rings on Monday in a private ceremony in Downtown Los Angeles. The rings were made by Tiffany and Co. The Galaxy became the first MLS franchise to win five titles. They’ve won three out of the last four MLS cups. They are set to begin their quest for back-to-back titles. Los Angeles would have the makings of a dynasty if they secure their fourth trophy in five years.
Kickoff is Friday, March 6 at 7:00pm against the Chicago Fire at the StubHub Center.
