Imagine what the Philadelphia 76ers must have thought when a 20 year old rookie Magic Johnson came out to center court for the jump ball to begin Game 6 of their series.
Due to Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s ankle injury in Game 5 Magic would play all five positions in the potential clincher with the Lakers up 3-2 in the series.
Magic would score 42 points, including all 14 of his free-throw attempts.
He added 15 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and a block.
This game began the “Showtime Dynasty” for the Lakers with Magic as their leader.
