A year after winning the Rookie of the Year in the then Los Angeles Raiders first season out of Oakland, Allen would lead the Raiders to a Super Bowl meeting with the defending champion Washington Redskins.
Allen put on a show gaining a then record 192 yards on the ground scoring two touchdowns in 38-9 drubbing of the Redskins.
Allen’s signature moment came when on the last play of the third quarter Allen took a hand off started up the middle reversed field and then out ran everyone to the end zone on a game breaking 74 yard touchdown run.
Mostly due to Allen’s efforts, the 1983 Los Angeles Raiders are still Los Angeles only Super Bowl winner.
