Roy Hibbert Trade
It took time. And, Roy Hibbert was far from the first choice to walk through the halls of Staples Center as the new face of Laker bigs, but Mitch Kupchak got him for a bargain.
The Lakers ate most of their $23 million salary cap to reel in Hibbert’s $15 million dollar salary. It only cost the Los Angeles Lakers 2nd round draft picks.
THAT is how bad Larry Bird and the Indiana Pacers wanted Hibbert gone.

The trade however, is in the best interest of both the Pacers and Hibbert.
He needed a change of pace. Roy Hibbert being part of a new setting and playing with the always intense Kobe Bryant may revive his career from his dismal 10/7 2014-15 season.

And, this deal is a low-risk, high reward for Los Angeles due to this being a contract year for Hibbert.
Thus the pressure is on Hibbert to succeed in a Lakers uniform if he is to earn a long-term deal, in L.A. or elsewhere.
Bottom line is, for the Lakers, only shipping of a pair of 2nd round picks for a full season rental of Hibbert is a solid move.
