The New Hope

Sure, a narrative of “it’s just summer league,” can be established. It doesn’t mean anything.

Summer league is just publicized scrimmage games by rookies and sophomore players to establish rhythm and familiarize themselves with NBA play.

Also, there is to keep in perspective that Byron Scott has yet to put his coaching touches on this roster.

While on one hand it is easy to dismiss the Lakers summer league, on the other it does pose interesting questions going into the fall.

The Lakers found themselves on the losing end of the likes of the Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Utah Jazz, and Dallas Mavericks young players. A bulk of those young players from teams defeating the Lakers, aren’t very likely to be on NBA starters, yet alone be on NBA rosters.

This is not the case for the Lakers.

Practically the whole summer league roster of the Los Angeles Lakers will be starters and players who will see quality minutes off of the bench.

If the Laker youth can’t get past d-leaguers, journeyman, and bench players, then how will they fare vs. real NBA competition?
