Before Jonathan Quick came along and put up extraordinary numbers and plays in the net, Rogie Vachon was the top goaltender in Kings’ history.
Vachon was the first great goaltender to play in LA, and remains a legacy that still has not been broken to this day.
In his career with the Kings, Vachon put up a 2.24 G.A.A and managed 171 wins while in a Kings uniform.
Vachon would spend seven seasons and besides wins, holds team record for career games with 389 and recently Jonathan Quick recently beat his shutout record last season.
Vachon lead the shutout category for a number of years with 32. Afterwards, Vachon spend some time as the teams general manager from 1984-1992 and also served as the interim head coach numerous times.
Besides playing for the Kings, Vachon also played for the Montreal Canadians, Boston Bruins, and Detroit Red Wings during his 16-game career.
While playing in LA, Vachon was named team MVP four times and almost become the first Kings goaltender to be credited for a goal in game against the New York Islanders.
It was in a case in which the Islanders scored on themselves during a delayed penalty, however after further review, it revealed that Vachon was the second-to-last player to touch the puck before it went in the net.
His number is now a handful of numbers retired by the Kings and now serves a verity of executive positions in the Kings organization.
