Teamu Selanne
Jan 11, 2015; Anaheim, CA, USA; Teemu Selanne
Saving the best for last, this player impacted the Ducks and the NHL in general with his scoring abilities and just being a classy player in general.
Teamu Selanne, also known as the “Finnish Flash”, began his NHL career when he was selected in the first round, tenth overall, in the 1988 Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets, but remained in Finland for a few more years before coming over in 1991.
During his career in Winnipeg, San Jose, Colorado, and Anaheim, Selanne would score 50 goals three times and top 100 points four times in his career.
Selanne is currently the highest scoring Finnish player in NHL history.
When he retired in 2014, he was 11th on the all-time scoring list with 684 goals and 15th on the points list with 1,457.
During his first stint in Anaheim, Selanne was paired with Paul Kariya and the duo lead the Ducks to their first postseason in 1997.
In his initial season in Anaheim, Selanne would put up 36 points in the 28 games he played in.
He followed it up the next season, by topping 100 points for the third time in his career.
However, his first stint in Anaheim came to end in 2001, after the struggling Ducks sent Selanne to San Jose in a March trade.
In the 2005-06 season, Selanne would make his return to Anaheim by signing a one-year deal.
On January 3o, 2006, Selanne would score his 1,000 point in a win over the rival Los Angeles Kings.
Selanne would reach several milestones the following year including his 500th career goal and play in his 1,000th career game.
Also that year, Selanne helped the Ducks to their Stanley Cup win.
Eventually ending his career in 2014, Selanne’s career went out in bittersweet fashion as the Ducks were eliminated by the Kings in seven games.
Afterwards Ducks and Kings fans and players alike saluted the Finnish Flash as he took one final lap around the Honda Center ice.
Selanne’s #8 jersey was retired by the Ducks the following year.
