As the Dodger faithful prepare for Spring Training and Opening Day, LA Sports Hub sat down with LA Dodger Report’s Scott Andes to talk more baseball.

For the Dodgers, 2016-17 will hopefully be a season of change for the better — they can’t really afford much else.

Dave Roberts will be in an interesting mix, as he was selected to be Don Mattingly’s replacement in the off-season.

In this podcast episode, Scott Andes and I discussed a series of issues facing the Dodgers this coming season.

They are as follows:

Knowing how big of an impact Zack Greinke had on the Dodgers during his time in Los Angeles, it will be hard to really gauge how the team handles not having him until we have some game tape to look at.

But one things for sure — their division didn’t get any easier.

In the NL West alone, the Dodgers have to deal with a re-vamped Arizona Diamondbacks team that took Greinke in the off-season and a San Francisco Giants squad looking to reload with the likes of Johnny Cueto now in their lineup.

Andes points out in the podcast that, for him at least, Adrian Gonzalez is the most valuable player on the team.

  • How Gonzalez can provide on the offensive front will largely determine how competitive Los Angeles is off the bat as well as throughout the season as a whole.

Because no matter how good your defense is, might, or could be, you can’t win baseball games if you don’t score.

While home runs may not be necessarily the best answer for the Dodgers, Gonzalez provides in more than just that statistic.

Career wise, Gonzalez has averaged 88 RBI per season while batting consistently with an average of .290.

He also rocked 28 home runs, in case that comes in handy for the Dodgers this next time around.

Andes goes on to say that Puig and Pederson are both still very young, so once they mature they will become even more of a threat than they have been in the best times we’ve seen them play yet.

And that’s scary for everyone else.

As a fresh start looms in Los Angeles, the Dodgers can lean on one phrase to keep them motivated as their next chase for a championship begins — do your job.
