Per an ESPN report, Janoris Jenkins is cutting ties with the Los Angeles Rams to head for the New York Giants.

The Rams are going to need to figure out something pretty quick considering the fact that Janoris Jenkins will not be returning as a boost to the Los Angeles secondary.

As ESPN reported this morning, Jenkins is expected to sign with the New York Giants — a move that will shake up both the NFC West and NFC East, respectively.

Jenkins was a big presence for the Rams during their time in St. Louis and his four years with the team, playing with them from 2012 all the way through last season.

In that span, Jenkins was also pretty healthy throughout, only missing a total of four games.

The biggest takeaway for the Rams is going to be making sure they can fill Jenkins’ role with someone who can cover deep threats, especially when it comes to big red zone stops around the goal line.

The reason for this is that the NFC West hasn’t gotten any easier with Jenkins’ decision, and there’s no way the Rams are going to be shown any mercy by the rest of the best division in football.

If Los Angeles decides to promote from within, the next man up for the job would be Marcus Roberson.

Roberson was a 2014 draft pick out of Florida who, as you can see in his combine and highlight reels, fills that role rather nicely for the Rams.

  • Roberson stands 6’0”, weighs 191 pounds, and has a decent amount of experience thus far in his career.

In just two seasons, he’s seen action in 25 games, while starting in six — four of which were last season.

You would also have to imagine that the Rams don’t want to move too far out of their comfort zone when replacing Jenkins.

Sure, those are big shoes to fill, but they don’t want to make things too awkward or force themselves to start over if they don’t have to.

Roberson seems up to the challenge and, unless they draw the attention of big-name free agent at the position of CB in the near future, it’s safe to say that he should get a shot at the starting nod.

Despite knowing this, the Rams could still go after guys like Antonio Cromartie, Brent Grimes, or even Sean Smith — but even then, Roberson still feels like the best fit for the job.
