March Madness 2016 Predictions: Expect The Worst In This Year’s Tourney
By Keith Rivas
Elite 8 Epidemic
Rivas: Not too long ago, the Butler Bulldogs became everybody’s favorite underdog en route to a National Championship duel with the Duke Blue Devils. This season, it’s wishful thinking — if we’re honest — to have them going any further than the Elite 8. In this particular match up, I see them facing off against the Michigan State Spartans. Tom Izzo is the kind of coach you would hate to face in this tournament, let alone that deep into something as chaotic as this all could be. They’ll give the Spartans a run for their money, but won’t be able to beat themselves.
Taylor: Wichita State is always a team that’s going to play defense and give every opponent more than they can handle. With Ron Baker and Frank Van Fleet anchoring the team, the shockers won’t shock me if we see them in the elite 8 this year. The team has so much experience and they know what it takes to advance in the NCAA tournament. Don’t be surprised to see this team deep in the tournament once again.
Warnock: I have Wichita State reaching the Elite 8 this year, and feel confident in doing so for a couple reasons. Like Gonzaga, the name of their game is defense, so it’s up to their offense to step up. Their numbers don’t show how good they actually are because, unlike Gonzaga, they can actually make baskets in the clutch. I have them facing Villanova in this round, who hasn’t done good under pressure themselves in the last couple of seasons. Expect the Shockers to live up to their name.
