Case Keenum has been announced as the starting quarterback in Los Angeles next season.

Amid all of the talk regarding what the Los Angeles Rams should do with their quarterback situation, it appears as though the team doesn’t want to look further than from within.

Nick Foles wasn’t able to capitalize in his time with the starting gig in hand when the team was in St. Louis, so the expectations are set pretty high for a guy like Case Keenum.

Not that Keenum isn’t up to the challenge or doesn’t have what it takes to do well, especially on a team like the Rams, but it’s not going to be the easiest shoes to fill.

While having to take the right steps to ensure a smooth transition at the position in being a replacement, Keenum will also have to simultaneously handle the heat of being the first quarterback to play in Los Angeles for a professional football team in two decades.

The whole relocation process is going to give Keenum what he needs as a guy who hasn’t gotten much attention as the sole receiver of the spotlight.

Los Angeles is perfect for this situation for several more reasons, though — something that Keenum will become grateful for as next season nears and eventually progresses.

First and foremost, the city likes to live life on the edge.

The fans want new, they want crazy, but they also want good, winning teams.

Todd Gurley has been an excellent addition to the Rams offense, proving that they may not need to rely so heavily on the pass in the immediate future.

With Gurley powering through gaps and being the monster that he’s become in just one full season since leaving Georgia, that will take that much more pressure off of Keenum to be above and beyond.

  • Because if we expect him to play at an absolutely elite level, we will almost certainly be disappointed — especially in the first full season of him being the starter for the Rams.

Depending on how the upcoming NFL Draft treats Los Angeles, Keenum will also have a great set of wide receivers around him, while the idea of grabbing a top-tier tight end is still up in the air.

Either way, the run threat the Rams have — one unlike any other in the league — will be what makes or breaks Keenum’s shot at the long-term job.

Should Keenum show signs of progress, the franchise wouldn’t have much choice but to put the thought of Nick Foles behind them, leaving Foles’ true honeymoon to whatever team picks him up next.

Also, if that were to be the way things play out at whatever juncture, Foles could be good trade bait for another key piece to whatever the Rams want to do with the offensive side of the ball.

Lastly, the reason the team made the right decision here is because there’s obviously no hope for Foles to be the go-to guy after what happened in St. Louis.

Third string guys aren’t the option unless there’s serious injury and issues with the depth chart, and the team didn’t want to make a risky trade for a quarterback on the market — at least not yet.
