USC Trojans vs CSU Fullerton: Baseball Preview

The USC Trojans will play host to the Cal State Fullerton Titans on Monday.

Tuesday’s game will complete the Trojans’ five-game home stand.

Last year, the Trojans were 1-1 vs. the Titans.

USC defeated Fullerton in their first 2015 meeting at a score of 6-4, however the Titans flipped the switch and got revenge against the Trojans with a 5-3 comeback in 12 innings at Dedeaux Field.

The Titans are 21-20 against USC while on the road. Both teams will meet for the 91st time since 1975, which was the Titans’ first year in NCAA Division I baseball.

Fullerton leads the series with a 50-39-1 record.

In the 2016 season, the USC Trojans have an overall record of 9-9 and in the PAC-12 conference play they hold a record of 2-1.

The Titans wrapped up their nine-game home stand against the University of Maryland this past weekend.

The Titans have an overall record of 11-8 and lost the rubber game against the Maryland Terrapins on Sunday 1-0. Freshman Colton Eastman (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season.

He pitched 6.2 innings, and allowed one run on four hits and struck out eight batters.

The Trojans began conference play on Thursday, March 17th against California.

USC started off slow as they lost the first game of the series 5-4. Senior Kyle Davis (2-3) pitched seven innings and allowed five runs on 10 hits. Davis walked one batter and struck out six.

The star on Thursday night’s game was Daulton Jefferies (5-0) who went seven innings and held the Trojans to four runs on nine hits.

On Friday’s game, the Trojans came back swinging. USC defeated No. 12 California, with a season-high 18 runs on 18 hits as the Trojans tied the series at 1-1 with an 18-5 victory.

The star of the game, third baseball, Adalberto Carrillo, went 4-for-4 and scored one run.

The Santa Ana native hit a two-run home run to lead the team with four home runs on the season.

Jeremy Martinez tied his career high four hits with a 4-for-5 day with three RBI and two runs scored. AJ Ramirez was another Trojan that contributed with 3 RBI hitting 3-for-5 on the day.

In the last game of the series, former Cal State Fullerton pitcher Joe Navilhon started for the Trojans and pitched four innings only allowing two runs on 7 hits and struck out four batters. Andrew Wright (1-0) came in for relief of Navilhon and got the win.
