The Los Angeles Rams need to do themselves a favor.

I am going to be bold in this article and explain why the Los Angeles Rams’ best decision is to go in a different direction with their 15th pick in the NFL Draft.

Head Coach Jeff Fisher named their starting quarterback for Week 1 way ahead of schedule, and it is Case Keenum.

Keenum beat out Nick Foles last year in the middle of the season for the starting job.

Both quarterbacks have have had good runs with their former teams; Foles with the Philadelphia Eagles and Keenum with the Houston Texans.

They each have impressed with their former teams and with the now Los Angeles Rams.

All of the players on the L.A. Rams teams are young and talented.

After departing with Chris Long and James Laurinaitis, there are only a few players on the roster with a lot of experience in the NFL.

For example, on the offensive line there is only one starter with more than four years of experience, and it is guard Garrett Reynolds.

This group of linemen did not protect the quarterback great last year, whether it was Nick Foles, Case Keenum, or otherwise.

Many analysts are saying the Rams need to acquire skill players of different positions, whether it is through the NFL Draft, free agency, waiver wire, or trades.

  • The position they are all saying they need to draft is a quarterback who played good in college or a receiver who can bring some leadership and energy to the Rams’ offense.

Let me remind everyone that the Rams have a young offensive line who had two rookies who were starters. This line is young, has talent, and are raw athletes.

When having all three of these attributes, with time, they will mature and become great.

They are missing one more piece to their offense and it is a versatile offensive lineman.

We all know defense wins championships and offense gets you there — just ask the 2015-16 Denver Broncos.

All you need is a quarterback who can manage the game, hand the ball off, make short passes, and complete first downs.

To assist the quarterback in helping make plays, the team needs an offensive line.

The Rams have a line but need someone who can bring competition to take over a starting job, whether it be left tackle which is Greg Robinson’s spot or Rob Havenstein’s job.

Robinson disappointed this year with for having high expectations because of injuries; while Havenstein impressed the organization.

The first round draft pick they should pick is left tackle Ronnie Stanley out of Notre Dame, even if they have to move up in the draft to acquire him.

He can hold his ground, compete with Robinson and they can make each other better and he can play for Robinson int he preseason while Robinson gets healthy.

Stanley can also learn who to play guard or right tackle because he will have a new playbook.

My main takeaway is that the Rams need to draft an offensive lineman because they need to protect their quarterback and his blindside.

Improving their line will improve their offense as a whole.

If they all can be versatile by knowing how to play each position on the line, they will be able to make a playoff run with running back Todd Gurley, quarterback Case Keenum or Nick Foles, and the defense they have in place at the moment.
