The Los Angeles Rams can’t take tight end situation lightly.

The Los Angeles Rams offense needed a makeover this season, and so far they’ve yet to make any moves in free agency to improve the NFL’s worst offense in 2015.

One of the positions that should get addressed sooner rather than later is the tight end position.

The Rams released their most productive tight end over the past three years in Jared Cook earlier in the off-season, and have yet to sign his replacement.

Most of the top free agents have already signed with teams, as we’re in the later half of free agency, but there are a few names the Rams can look at.

Vernon Davis, who spent most of his 11 years in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers before being traded to Denver, could be a nice asset.

Davis hasn’t done too well in the latter part of his career, but Los Angeles could be the perfect turning point for him.

Owen Daniels also is a good veteran name.

Daniels admitted he may consider retiring at the age off 33, but if the Rams can convince him to play for 1-2 year deal it may pay off for the Los Angeles.

Daniels had 46 catches , 516 yards, and 3 touchdowns; he also had 2 touchdowns in the AFC championship game against the Patriots.

  • Besides Davis and Daniels, two veterans in the later of their careers, there isn’t much left in free agency.

Another option can be expanding Lance Kendricks’ role.

As last season the Rams gave Kendricks a contract extension for 4 years 18 million dollars.

So that can be the plan despite Kendricks never having more than 300 yards for the past 3 seasons and being known as more of a blocking tight end.

But even if this is the plan, the Rams still will need another tight end to go along with Kendricks, and the best bet may be fill that need in the draft.

There isn’t that much depth in this year’s draft class, but it is led by Hunter Henry, who looks he will be the first tight end taken off the board and the Rams have other needs to spend their first round pick on a tight end.

There’s also Nick Vannett out of Ohio State and  Tyler Higbee of Western Kentucky who’ve generating a lot of buzz as the draft gets closer.

Vannett is a big target at 6’5”, but at Ohio State he wasn’t used as much but has shown enough promise to become a receiving threat in the NFL.

Higbee a former receiver has good athleticism for a man his size and is moving up boards He played in a division two college and my take time to get up to speed in the NFL but he does have potential to be an NFL tight end.

If the Rams want to improve their tight end unit, it may be smart to take a look at some of the later tight end prospects.

Next: 3 Free Agents For Los Angeles Rams

Going with Kendricks as their blocking tight end especially with the offense going more with a power style with Todd Gurley as the running back and then add a mid-round pick and develop him as the receiving option and a third tier free agent tight end like Jeff Cumberland for depth.
