Zach Mettenberger is back with coach Ken Wisenhunt, the coach who drafted him 2 years ago to the Tennessee Titans.

The San Diego Chargers claimed Zach Mettenberger off of waivers Tuesday May 17, 2016.

Ken Wisenhunt is the offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers.

The Bolts currently have 3 active quarterbacks including starter Phillip Rivers, making Zach the 4th QB which means he will be competing with former ASU start Mike Bercovici ,for the 3rd and final spot on the depth chart.

They also acquired Bryn Renner therefore the two quarterbacks who do not make the depth chart will be on the practice squad and keep competing until they outperform the quarterbacks above them.

Ken Wisenhunti is currently the new offsenive coordinator for the Chargers and he drafted Mettenberger when the Titans were looking for a starting franchise quarterback.

Then the next year in the 2015 NFL draft the Titans elected Marcus Mariota with the second overall pick to be their franchise quarterback.

He started a few games toward after the middle of the season because Mariota got injured.

Zach backed up franchise Mariota and in those few starts statistically speaking he didn’t do great nor did he do horrible.

Ken drafted him to develop him into a franchise/starting quarterback in his system, but that failed as he started out backing up former NFL player Jake Locker and 3rd string behind Charlie Whitehurst.

Locker would go on to get hurt, then Charlie and Zach would battle it out for the starting position.

For both quarterbacks it is difficult to perform at a high level when you have a poor offensive line.

Now that the organization has their quarterback for the future and it is not Zach, I am sure he didn’t want to be stuck as a backup quarterback a lot longer since it is only Mariota second season.

He may not get a chance to be a starter unless he went somewhere else with an opportunity to start and in the near future.

It couldn’t be more ironic that he landed in San Diego with the Bolts.

He is back with the coach who believed in him and one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

San Diego is the perfect fit for hm to learn behind future Hall Of Famer quarterback Phillip Rivers.

This is the place where he can jump start his career after two rough first years and he has shown signs of improvements.

He can be the future franchise quarterback after Rivers leaves as long as works hard and believes in himself.

They have been building for the present an the future.

For the future their defense is set, now they just need some future offensive lineman,a nd they may have just found their future quarterback in Zach Mettenberger.

Rivers has a few more years left in which he can teach/mentor Zach, to where he needs to be at to start.

Phillip had the same problem as Mettnberger last year with the offensive line; the only difference is it was because the Bolts starters were injured early in the season and they are an experienced offensive line.

He still managed along with his teammates to come very close to winning most of there games against playoff teams just to fall short by a touchdown or less on the road or at home.
