Pelicans Rookie guard from USC Bryce Dejean-Jones has died at the age of 24, after gunshot wounds on his birthday May 28, 2016.

There have been multiple reports with varying sources on what the actual reason and cause of death of Bryce Dejean-Jones really is.

Some have said he was shot by the Dallas Police, while others say he was shot by the resident of the apartment Jones was in, and some have said he broke into the apartment.

None the less this kid is gone and too early at the age of 24 years old.

His future was bright for him with the New Orleans Pelicans.

We won’t know the whole true story until all the case-work is said and done.

According to an article, written by NBA.com and statements by his agent, “he was at the wrong place at the wrong time” and then the events issued.

What really happened was he broke into an apartment door and the resident shot him in self-defense.

Dallas Police responded to the scene and when they arrived Jones was found collapsed at the scene in a hallway; then the Police escorted him to the hospital where he would later decease from the gunshot wounds.

In the state of Texas it is legal and residents are allowed to shoot intruders in self-defense if they feel threatened for their lives.

Jones may or may not have been using a substance, reports and investigations have yet to prove that.

His dad stated that, “he was visiting his girlfriend for their daughters first birthday, ‘then had gone for a walk, according to Jones agent then arrived back at the complex,’ it was his first time at the complex and went to the third floor instead of the fourth floor where his girlfriend lives. When he began to kick down the door to the apartment that is when the resident retrieved his handgun and fired his shot.”

There could have been steps to have prevented his death from occurring, by Jones and the resident who fired the shot.

For instance, if Jones had a cell phone he could have called his girlfriend and asked, “what floor are you on and why are you not answering the door?”

Also when he is on the wrong floor not knowing it, instead of kicking the door down he could have knocked on the door and that would have mostly altered the outcome of the situation dramatically.

The resident who was sleeping would have woke up with his handgun in hand but instead of automatically shooting, he could and would have asked, “who is this?”

Next Jones would have responded and the resident would have said sorry wrong room, and could have helped him, by asking him “who are you looking for maybe I can direct you to the proper floor and room?”

These and even other steps could have been taken to prevent this death and then none of this may have happened.
