Todd Gurley in best place to lead 2017 NFL season in rushing
Todd Gurley running back for the Los Angeles Rams has the best chance of leading the NFL in rushing this season.
After the performance Gurley showed us last season he is expected to lead the NFL in rushing this season.
The Rams will most likely start the rookie quarterback Jared Goff this season who has a cannon for an arm.
Most teams usually do not allow their quarterbacks to make certain adjustments because they want what is best for their player and the team.
Some teams do let their quarterbacks make adjustments, giving that Goff is a rookie but comes from a professional background the team can go either way with their decision.
Most teams with rookie quarterbacks want them to manage the game as in make short complete passes to move the chains, hand the ball off which is also a security for the quarterback and trust the defense.
This does not mean they won’t give Goff a chance to show what he is made of because for them to assess his ability at the professional level they have to let him play.
They will definitely see his performances in the preseason and lean toward their overall decision because the preseason isn’t the best measuring tool but it is the closest they will have before the regular season.
The Los Angeles Rams were one game away from .500 record and want to make the playoffs as soon as possible.
In order for them to do that they are going to want to have Goff hand the ball off to Gurley for most of the plays, which will generate more yards for him because he will be receiving more touches.
He got a fair amount of touches in the 2015/2016 NFl season.
Gurley impressed all of the NFL world last year in multiple games and proved to everyone he is a great running back.
He rushed for over 1,000 yards on 229 carries.
He has a chance this year to rush for twice that amount with his offense being on the longer than their defense because heir defense is stout.
Can Gurley be the next running back to rush for 2,000 yards in a season?
He would be the second Ram to do that; the other Ram running back Eric Dickerson.
Gurley will have a chance to improve all his numbers this year, because most likely coach Jeff Fisher is going to call a lot of run plays to carry the team, a few passing plays and trust his defense.
He averaged about 5 yards per carry and only scored 10 touchdowns, yet he only fumbled 3 times which proves he has great ball security and that is what the Rams need.
I am not stating they don’t trust Goff, this is just one option they may do so they can make the playoffs immediately.
They may surprise us all and call an even amount of run and pass plays as Goffs rookie season can go either way.
No one will know until we see him perform.
Let us not forget legendary hall of fame quarterback Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie season and Tom Brady had a great rookie season, but both had excellent careers overall winning multiple individual accolades, team accolades, and Super Bowls.
Gurley has the best chance to lead the NFL in rushing more so than Adrian Peterson or Le’ veon Bell because unlike those teams Goff does not really have anyone to pass to with his reliable arm meaning Gurley will be fed the ball more.
