A centerpiece of the post-Showtime Lakers in the early ’90’s, Van Exel earned the Lakers fans affections as ball handling shooter known as “Nick the Quick.” Van Exel was a Lakers draft pick steal as he was taken in the second round of the 1993 NBA Draft as the number 37th pick.

Though not part of a Lakers championship, Van Exel would provide the Lakers with buzzer beaters and flashy passes averaging 14.9 points and 7.3 assists with the team.
