Is D’Angelo Russell or Someone Else the Next Face of the Lakers?

Los Angeles is looking for someone to be the new face of the Lakers now that Kobe Bryant has retired.

There are plenty of potential replacements for Kobe as the face of the organization, currently on the team.

Many critics think that D’Angelo Russell is the new face of the Lakers, because he was drafted second overall in 2015.

He is a point guard and usually point guards are naturally leaders on the court.

D’Angelo Russell is ready to be the leader for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Last year he was supposed to shine as a leader, but Kobe Bryant was retiring.

Two different situations were happening at once.

The Past and the Future of the franchise collided.

This year Luke Walton made it clear Russell is a leader on the team.

Russell has been working on everything on and off the court this off-season that is for sure.

Is he really Kobe’s replacement as the face of the Lakers though?

Anyone on the Los Angeles Lakers roster right now can be the new face of the Lakers.

According to Lakers Nation and an interview Russell did with Bleacher report, he talked about being the new face of the Lakers.

For the full quote go to the link in the sentence above and you will find the quote in the article.

In a paraphrase he said, “You can’t just replace a high caliber player just like that, it chooses you.”

He also said, “He likes the team they have and they all want to be the best individuals and teammates and best team in the league.”

They all want to be the best player at their position for the franchise and in the league.

No one can replace any player, but they can work hard and become the next player and face of the franchise for the team they are playing on.

In this case it is the Lakers.

LA is waiting for the next player to step up to become the next face of the franchise for the Lakers.

D’Angelo Russell is a great possibility as he is a leader for the Lakers.

Yet there are so many talented young core players on the team that anyone can be the next face of the franchise.

Russell even said it in his interview you don’t get to choose it, it chooses you.

Therefore that means Randle, Nance Jr., Brown, Ingram, or Clarkson can be the face of the Lakers.

There may be a player I did not mention that may end up being the franchise player in the future.

Right now all that matters to the team is growing and improving their game together.

They want to be the best they can be at their position and the best team in the league.

They are hungry, want to win games, and championships.

All the matters to them right now is winning games!

Next: Year of The Dodgers?

Being named the next franchise player and face of the franchise can wait.
