Dodgers Rumors: Jose Bautista on radar, not out of reach

The latest Dodgers rumors could shake up the Los Angeles line up.

As the Dodgers continue their off-season pursuit of players, the guys that have come to mind could be surprising.

One of those surprise names on the list is free agent Jose Bautista, who most recently played in Toronto. Bautista was a definite presence in the lineup for the Blue Jays and could easily help Los Angeles where they need it most.

According to a report from the Toronto Star, Los Angeles has reached out to Bautista.

Per the report:

A source indicates that free-agent outfielder Jose Bautista and his camp have been contacted by the Los Angeles Dodgers regarding a potential contract, but that those talks are on hold until the major-league trade market further plays itself out.

Additionally, if the Dodgers land Bautista, they could find the missing link.

Going against Chicago in the playoffs showed the ultimate strengths and weaknesses of the ball club. The NLCS demonstrated their raw strength at pitching, but highlighted their lack of big bats.

Rightfully so, the 12-year veteran is best known for his playoff bat flip against Texas.

Spirit would do a lot for Los Angeles, but Dave Roberts would have to show he can manage a personality. In his first season with the Dodgers, problems arose because of the personality Yasiel Puig brings to the table — Bautista could be more of the same.

Aside from the antics, let’s look at the stats.

Bautista has a career batting average over .250 with 22 home runs and 69 RBI last season.

Los Angeles could use him against a potential rematch with the Cubs in the postseason, but also to ensure stability in the division.

If the Dodgers are going to keep winning division titles, power at the plate will be the key every single time.
