Fresh off their worst loss ever, could the Lakers make a move at the trade deadline after all?

If the latest Lakers rumors are true, Los Angeles could be much different.

Veteran Lou Williams has meant more to this Lakers team than meets the eye. Not only has he revitalized the second unit of Los Angeles, he’s played some of his best basketball.

With D’Angelo Russell out yet again due to knee issues, Williams could be the x-factor down the stretch.

The Lakers don’t have any All-Stars on their roster this season, but that could change.

There are more than enough trade rumors going around the league, and the Lakers listening to offers for Williams could be the smart thing to do.

According to a report from Lakers Outsiders, the team needs to use Williams’ explosive year to good use.

Per the report:

"From the moment he was signed, Lou Will’s tenure in LA has been an odd one. Coming off a Sixth Man of the Year award, the Lakers, coming off a 21-win season, inked Williams to not only a multi-year deal, but a remarkably team-friendly contract."

Williams isn’t the only relatively recent addition that was unique for the Lakers. The team also pursued former Cavaliers center Timofey Mozgov along with league veteran Luol Deng.

Getting rid of Williams means taking another step towards committing towards the youth movement.

With that kind of move, the Lakers also almost guarantee that this year will be tanked.

Obviously not too intentionally, as they still have half the season to play, but they have to keep their lottery pick situation in mind. Should Los Angeles not have a top three pick, it won’t be protected and will end up with Philadelphia.
